When and Where to Use These Labels
These labels are mandatory for shipments categorised as Excepted Packages under UN numbers 2908, 2909, 2910, or 2911. These typically include low-activity radioactive materials such as:

Though lower in hazard, these packages still fall under strict transport controls. Excepted Packages do not require fully type-tested packaging, but they must display this handling label to alert handlers to the presence of radioactive material.
For air transport, this label must be affixed to the outer package with the appropriate UN number clearly written in. If the gross weight exceeds 50kg, this must also be marked. Additionally, the outer package must display the full name and address of both the shipper and consignee.
Inside the packaging, the word “Radioactive” must be visible upon opening. For liquid contents, orientation arrows (This Way Up labels) must be applied to two opposite vertical sides. Always remove outdated labels or conflicting information to avoid confusion during handling.
