Hibiscus Plc : About
The UKs Leading Chemical Label Manufacturer
Hello, I’m James Killerby – Managing Director of Hibiscus PLC. Please allow me to welcome you to this section of our website, where I hope you will learn all you need to know about the proud heritage of our company, our chemical labelling expertise, and the fantastic people that make up our team!
Hibiscus is a commercial printing company that specialises in producing labelling solutions specifically for the chemical industry and was launched in 1981 with the support of a government business loan. I am exceptionally proud to be the 3rdgeneration of the Killerby family to lead the company. My parents, Brian and Dorothy Killerby, founded the business with just a small, hand-made label rewinding machine, that Brian made himself, and the first year’s profit was a very hard-earned £74!
Since then, our trajectory has been one of remarkable growth.
In 1986 we moved into our purpose-built factory on the outskirts of Leeds, and in 2004 the building was tripled in size.
In 2023 we made significant investments into our manufacturing facility, refurbishing the office space to the highest modern standards.
This has included the installation of a new Demo-Room which has become an ideal space for customers old and new to meet with us, take on our MSDS software demo (don’t worry we have very strong coffee to keep you awake!) and get hands on with our BS5609 printers with Demo models supplied from our partners at Epson, Lexmark, Sharp and OKI.
Our infrastructure has also been drastically revamped with the addition of solar panels across the site which, in 2023, provided around 40% of the energy used to power the entire factory!
At Hibiscus, we take pride in our extensive industry knowledge, navigating the intricacies of chemical labelling legislation, and ensuring the performance and durability of our products in the most challenging environments.

From our headquarters in Leeds, we extend our services to businesses across the UK and beyond, offering labels, printers, and software. Our customer base spans a wide spectrum, from major industry players (27 of them ranking among the global top 50 chemical companies) to smaller niche enterprises in waste, pharmaceuticals, and transportation. I believe that the calibre of our customers is a strong indication of the high-quality of our products and the fantastic level of customer service that we provide.
Hibiscus labels boast steadfast endurance, ensuring they remain fade-resistant and securely adhered over time and we are the only label printer in the UK conducting its own BS:5609 Section 3 tests. When we print labels using our tested substrates and inks, so you can trust that they are fully compliant to BS:5609.
I appreciate your interest in Hibiscus Plc, should you require any more information on the company please feel free to reach out to me directly at anytime.
